The Scottish Gliding Union - A History
Your chance to read about the club's history in this excellent book by Portmoak Press editor, Ian Easson.

Derek Piggott's foreword acknowledges the pivotal role the club has played over the years and the importance of this historic piece of work." This book takes us through nearly 75 years of the SGU from 1934 to 2008 when gliding was developing from Primary gliders making hops timed in seconds, to John Williams’s epic 12 hour soaring flight in his Antares electric Self Launching Motor Glider in 2007. It is also packed full of interesting details of members’ exploits…"

In the main, this book is a collection of stories from visitors and club members who soared the skies over Fife and Scotland. It traces the toils and tribulations that the club faced over the years and the constant strive to overcome the difficulties of member retention and regulatory challenges. It describes the joys and tragedies over more than 70 years and shows how gliding has improved from the early primary gliders to the latest, state of the art, electric-powered self-launch sailplanes.
